Good Faith Estimate
Understanding Your
"Good Faith Estimate" Rights
If you don't have insurance or choose not to use it, health care providers are legally required to give you an estimated cost for your medical services and items.
You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate that outlines the total anticipated costs for any non-emergency medical services or items, which include expenses like medical tests, prescriptions, equipment, and hospital charges.
Make sure your healthcare provider provides this estimate in writing at least one business day before your scheduled service or item. You can also request an estimate from your provider or any other provider you consider before setting up a service or item.
Should you receive a bill that is $400 or more over your Good Faith Estimate, you have the option to contest the charges.
Keep a copy or a photo of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
